Winter White in Stuttgart

Despite the fact that I take public transport regularly, have a tendency to spill coffee and have two black cats, this white coat has become a staple of my winter wardrobe this year. Against all odds, it’s even managed to stay clean. And I’ve even worn it on board four flights—really!

In the past, I’ve had a tendency to buy black coats for wintertime. Perhaps it’s because they’re a safe choice, relatively easy to keep clean or because the dreary winter weather had just plain gotten to me.

So rather than have a wardrobe filled only with black, the past two years I’ve really made an effort to brighten things up. This year, I’ve added a pink (you’ve seen it here and here) and checked coat (last seen here) to the mix, but I think the white one might be the most unexpected choice of them all!

I really like a white coat plus a few sparkly accessories as a different take on festive dressing this time of year.

I think it’s a misconception that dressing up in the spirit of the holidays means getting decked out in a red and green made-for-Christmas sweater. While yes, that’s one way to look festive, there are plenty of other options too! Plus I have a hard time buying something that’ll only get worn once (well, aside from my wedding dress!).

I’ve spoken before about how I budget and shop strategically for clothes, so I’m all about pieces that will get plenty of wear throughout the season.

The slight shimmer of the silver threads in these cozy tights, plus the bejeweled bugs on my beanie add enough sparkle to make the outfit feel special, but not so much that you couldn’t also repeat it in January!

The shades of grey and white keep the look feeling light and bright which also keeps it feeling special, intentional and polished. And rather than being the focus, black is added in the form of accessories where, against the white backdrop, they really shine through!

I wore this outfit during our last day in Stuttgart Germany. We walked past the old New Palace en route to the Stuttgart City Library (which is now my most-liked photo on Instagram!). After taking plenty of photos in both spots, we headed towards the airport for a quick flight home to London.

And since we’ve gotten back a little over a week ago, I’ve worn some version of this same outfit several times…I have a feeling I’ll be repeating it quite a lot this winter (not just for the holidays!).

Until next time,
