2017 New Years Resolutions
It's that time again - time to reflect upon the year that's passed and think about the twelve months to come. For me, 2016 was a year with so much happening and so many changes. Life got a bit too hectic at times. In 2017, I want more calm, more focus and to spend my time in a way that recharges me.
My resolutions for this coming year reflect my desire for more mindfulness and since I do love the format I've used in the past (see my 2015 and 2016 resolutions), I've kept it for this year too.
A bad habit I'm going to break | I don't want to think of it as a bad habit that I want to break, but rather a good one I want to instill. I'm the first to admit that my posture could use quite a bit of improving - between 'tech neck,' stress-scrunching my shoulders and just general slouching, it's my goal this year to catch myself and straighten up!
A destination I'd like to visit | Not so much a specific place, but I'd like to take more long weekends this year. Living in London, I'm so lucky to be just a quick flight or train ride away from some really amazing spots. We've already had a quick weekend in Copenhagen and have booked tickets for Paris. Where to next?
I'm going to work harder at | Sticking up for my time, my health, my needs and myself and pushing back on things or people that have a negative impact on these things.
A project I'd like to finish | Most of the projects in my life are work related (and I like to keep work goals and personal goals fairly separate), but one thing I'd like to do this year in my own time is read more. I've got a stack of coffee table books sitting pretty, but unread, not to mention the remainder of Game of Thrones (I'm three books in so far!).
A class I'd like to take | I've downloaded Lightroom onto my computer and installed some VSCO presets, now it's time to figure out how to use this new software and edit my images in it. I'm sure that between youtube tutorials and some Skillshare classes I can figure it out!
I'd like to spend some more time doing | Improving my self-care. Last year I made big strides in taking care of my mental and physical health. I want to keep that up by continuing to think of myself in a positive light, make changes in my life that increase my overall happiness, take time off for myself when I need it, find time for hobbies that I enjoy (like this blog!) and eat more healthy meals at home.
A food I want to eat more of | Home-cooked meals. I'm guilty of eating either hummus and carrots or getting delivery for nearly every meal each week. There's nothing quite like a home-cooked meal to make you feel all warm and cozy inside (plus it's generally pretty healthy and will save me some money!), so that's the goal going forward.
I want to wear more | High quality pieces that I'll continue to wear year after year. The tail end of this year, I made a couple of big purchases (two coats that I absolutely love!). It's easy to be wasteful and purchase things just because they're a good deal or a current trend, but I want to shop with a bit more intention - only buying items that I know that I'll wear for years, truly fit my style and personality and are high enough quality to last.
Until next time,
- B
