Greece Highlights In Photos

At the end of last month, I was lucky enough to join my parents for a week and a half trip to Greece!

For the first portion of the trip, we stayed with relatives who were so welcoming and eager to share their country with us. They cooked traditional Greek dishes, introduced us to their friends and family and drove us to their favorite places. I think we were all blown away by how at home we felt in a foreign country - it seemed like every person we met treated us like a close friend! 

From our relatives' home in the northern part of the country, we explored castles, museums, beaches, and monasteries. After saying goodbye, my parents and I then spent some time relaxing on an Aegean island and then visiting some iconic Greek landmarks. I won't share an exhaustive itinerary as I did for Paris and London - we did and saw too much for me to write here - but I will share my favorite memories, highlighted in the form of photos, below!

The Acropolis in Athens - pictures do not do this site justice. Hands down my favorite place we visited, the history and views are unmatched. Visit in the evening to beat the heat and the crowds.

Beaches and roadside beauty in Agiokampos - wild poppies along the roads, beachside umbrellas and boats awaiting tourists, and some of the clearest blue waters I've ever seen, this area is where our relatives live and where we were lucky enough to stay for a few days.

The monasteries of Meteora - our relatives took us here on a cloudy day, and it was eerily beautiful. Built on cliffs that jut out of the valley, it almost seems like these monasteries were meant to touch the sky. 

Relaxation and panoramas on Skiathos - visiting a Greek island was a must-do on my list and Skiathos did not disappoint any of us. It had scenic drives and hilltop vistas that pleased my dad and a picture perfect hillside hotel complete with cushioned poolside lounge chairs for me and my mom. 

A cool, crisp morning in Dephi - I'm so happy that we made the drive to Delphi, as it was so incredibly scenic. The town itself is in the mountains, surrounded by rocky hills dotted with majestic cypress trees that only enhance the beauty of the classical ruins.
